ADAGE-AugmenteD MAGnetic SEnsing – Capteurs magnétiques augmentés

The rapid development of our connected world engenders a strong demand for magnetic sensing.Spintronics-based sensors are indeed already widely implemented for automotive, energy, consumer electronics, health and defense applications due to their high sensitivity, micron size dimensions, CMOS process compatibility and low cost. Partners of the ADAGE project have successfully tackled the production of high-performance magnetic field sensors. Today’s challenge is to develop even more sensitive, low-power, agile and versatile sensors. To this aim, new paradigms will be explored emerging from the combination of a deep understanding of nanomagnetism, improved nanofabrication, new materials and electronic architectures for a new generation of spintronic sensors with augmented functionalities. First, the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) will be improved, targeting a gain of at least one decade compared to the present state-of-the-art. Second, a new generation of smart sensors with tunable properties (range, linearity and directivity), able to cover diverse applications or to adapt at their runtime configuration will be developed. To this aim, a combination of magnetic simulations, specific electronics, new stacks materials and architectures, incorporation of high-performance concentrators, coupling with acoustic waves and the incorporation of optimized spin-orbit torques (SOT) will be used.
