Many research groups are currently investigating platforms for efficiently coupling the motion of levitating particles to the spin of atomic electrons for magnetometry and future quantum applications. Levitating diamonds coupled to embedded Nitrogen-Vacancy (NV) centers as well as levitating micro-magnets under vacuum are both highly isolated systems that offer bright prospects towards this purpose [1]. I will present our experimental efforts in these directions. First, I will present our results on coherent manipulations of the spin of NV centers [2] and our demonstration of the spin-dependent torque and spin-cooling of the angular motion of diamonds levitating in a electro-dynamical trap [3]. Then, I will present our observation of spindiamagnetism from the NV centers [4]. I will show how the negative NV magnetic susceptibility enables microwave-free control of the diamond crystalline axes, offering prospects towards spinlevitation of diamonds. Levitating magnets are also intriguing systems, where the magnetic moment can make the particle angle precess. This effect however remains elusive. I will present our efforts towards observing such atom-like effects in a new magnetic trap for magnets that operates at room temperature.
