L’European Research Council (ERC) est le premier organisme paneuropéen de financement de la recherche d’excellence. Il a été créé en 2007 dans le cadre du 7ème programme-cadre de recherche de l’UE (FP7- 2007-2013). Il vise à renforcer le dynamisme, la créativité et l’excellence de la recherche européenne aux frontières du savoir. Depuis 2007, quelque 7 000 projets ont été sélectionnés pour le financement, provenant de plus de 65 000 propositions.

The European Research Council (ERC) is the first pan-European funding body for frontier research. It was set up in 2007 under the EU’s 7th Framework Programme for Research (FP7, 2007-2013). It aims to enhance the dynamism, creativity and excellence of European research at the frontiers of knowledge. Since 2007, some 7,000 projects have been selected for funding, from more than 65,000 proposals.
The ERC is today part of the first pillar – ‘Excellent Science’ – of Horizon 2020, the present EU Programme for Research and Innovation.
