Development of a dual experimental device for in situ elemental analysis of nanomaterials
The objective of this work is to develop a dual experimental device for in situ elemental analysis of nanomaterials (nanostructured thin films and nanoparticles) during their synthesis (deposition or gas-phase growth). Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) will be employed to identify the elemental composition and stoichiometry in real time.
Within the framework of the PEPR Diadem (a French initiative accelerating innovative materials discovery), the FastNano project aims to fast-track the synthesis of novel nanomaterials. To this end, a novel co-deposition system is being developed, coupling gas-phase nanoparticle synthesis with a PVD reactor to elaborate composite layers. To bypass time-consuming trial-and-error approaches, two specific in situ LIBS-based tools will monitor the chemical composition of both nanoparticles and the resulting composite films during fabrication.
