Le 31 mars 2016, à l'occasion des 10 ans des réseaux C'nano Ile-de-France et IFRAF, un des prix de de l'image Nano-K  a été attribué à John Alper du NIMBE/LEDNA, pour son oeuvre "On the beach at night alone".

L'image à l'échelle nanométrique montre un tapis de nanotubes alignés de silicium revêtu de carbone (la falaise...), que l'on a fait croitre sur un substrat de silicium légèrement gravé (la plage...).  Bravo pour la créativité !

This scene, of nanoscale silicon wires, reminds one of a macroscale scene. Just as we can see nanoscale analogues to the scenes present in our everyday life. But only in dreams, can we truly traverse seamlessly, and experience both scales at once. I do dream in nano. A composite of three scanning electron microscope images taken at different focal lengths of a carbonized silicon nanowire array synthesized via a wet etch of silicon and chemical vapor deposition of carbon. Utilizing the NovelX mySEM low voltage imaging system, the near and far range images were taken with standard backscatter collection while the middle range image was taken using the Topo mode in order to capture the "shadows". The three images were combined and colorized.
