Social issues and responsibilities

Open science

The CEA has been involved in the open science approach since 2008, when the organization chose the HAL national platform as an open institutional repository to guarantee the long-term archiving and international visibility of its scientific publications.

The CEA’s charter for open science, signed in 2021 by the CEA’s administrator general, encourages the organization’s researchers to release research results and data, in line with the European principle of “as open as possible, as closed as necessary”.

In line with the guidelines set out in the French National Plan for Open Science, the CEA is committed to a strategy of balanced openness of its research publications and data:

  • in line with the European principle of “as open as possible, as closed as necessary”, and
  • within the limits imposed by applicable regulations, confidentiality agreements with its partners, respect for secrets protected by law, and the protection of its scientific and technical heritage.

Decarbonation

IRAMIS and its units are committed to a three-pronged approach to sustainable development:

  • energy sobriety by reducing energy consumption
  • the decarbonization of activities, with a targeted reduction in the facilities’ carbon footprint
  • the environmental impact of day-to-day operations, with sustainable management of biodiversity and resources.

Scientific integrity

Scientific integrity is a value that refers to the set of principles, rules and best practices that must govern research activity in order to guarantee its honesty and rigor, and thus establish the credibility of research, reinforcing society’s confidence in science and researchers. It is the subject of numerous texts at national, European and international level. In 2020, scientific integrity was enshrined as a legal concept in the French Research Programming Act for the years 2021 to 2030.

The principles and rules defined by the charters to which the CEA has subscribed are applicable, in particular:

  • the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers,
  • the Charte nationale de déontologie des métiers de la recherche,
  • the European Code of Conduct for Research Integrity.
  • Research programming law 2021-2030
