Emeline CHARON

I am a CEA research scientist in nanosciences specialized in carbon materials: from graphene and carbon nanotubes (CNT) up to interstellar carbon and carbon in meteorites.

My research fields are:

  • Physicochemistry of materials
  • Nanosciences and nanotechnologies
  • Design, development and optimization of CVD process
  • Carbon materials
  • Synthesis and characterization of carbon nanotubes

Since my PhD, I have been participating at the same time in fundamental research and in R&D. I have acquired robust skills in physico-chemistry (particularly in physico-chemistry of carbon materials and nanomaterials), and in various general techniques of materials synthesis and characterization (CCVD, furnace with controlled atmosphere, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), Raman spectroscopy).

During my PhD and my last post-doc at CSNSM, I studied multiscale organization of carbon included in meteorites or Antarctic micrometeorites with HRTEM, Raman spectroscopy, STXM/XANES and secondary ion mass spectrometry.

During my two postdoc at CEA Saclay, I studied synthesis of carbon nanotubes by catalytic chemical vapor deposition assisted by aerosol. My first postdoc consisted of reducing iron segments in CNT central core while my second postdoc consisted in development of supercapacitor electrodes made using CNT. I characterized CNT by SEM, HRTEM, spectroscopy Raman and TGA.

Currently, I perform experimental research in the field of synthesis and characterization of carbon nanotubes. My main proposal is about synthesis and study of CNT and graphene growth mechanisms at low temperature.
