Marie Curie Sklodowska 2024 prize for Malaurie Paillot

Malaurie Paillot has been awarded the Prix Marie Curie Sklodowska 2024, the thesis prize of the Chemistry under Radiation and Radiochemistry, subdivision of the Physical Chemistry Division (SCF), for her work on the fundamental understanding and development of concentrated aqueous electrolytes for magnesium batteries. The thesis was carried out at NIMBE under the supervision of Sophie Le Caër and Magali Gauthier. Using radiolysis, Malaurie elucidated the degradation mechanisms of LiTFSI- and Mg(TFSI)₂-based electrolytes, studying the species formed at short times after radiation/matter interaction, as well as the stable degradation products formed (TFSI-: bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anion). This research also demonstrated the effectiveness of radiation chemistry in rapidly simulating long-term battery ageing phenomena, and enabled us to study the associated mechanisms.
