CDI position in the DICO team at LIDYL in the field of physical instrumentation (vacuum technology, electro-mechanics, laser)

Job description

The person recruited will be involved in the development of experimental instrumentation: this covers the design of small electro-mechanical devices, instrumentation, design with simple CAD elements in conjunction with researchers. Computer control of experiments in place or being set up will be planned and carried out in collaboration with the DICO group’s team of experimenters. In addition, during measurement campaigns, she will be responsible for starting up laser chains, associated elements and high-vacuum equipment, and for taking initial diagnostic measurements.

He/she will also act as an interface between DICO group experimenters and SLIC group laser specialists attached to the ATTOLab and UHI100 platforms.

Thejobholder’s responsibilities are as follows:

  • Contribute to the R&D activities of the DICO Group in terms of instrumentation and development of small devices, in close interaction with the laser operator team (SLIC Group). Participate in the improvement of experiments and control and acquisition instrumentation. Programming of control software may be required.
  • Start-up and maintenance of equipment associated with DICO group experiments
  • Maintenance of DICO vacuum systems

Candidate profile

The candidate should have experience in an academic or industrial environment, with a proven track record in device design, computer control of experiments and/or data acquisition (imaging, multi-channel or point measurements).

He/she should have skills in general physical instrumentation. In particular, knowledge of the handling and maintenance of vacuum chambers, motorized elements, optical elements and/or various detectors will be a plus. For experiment interfacing, he/she should have basic knowledge of the use of computer software/languages such as Labview, Python or C

Knowledge of optics and laser diagnostics would be highly appreciated.

Level of education: DUT/BUT Instrumentation Mesures Physiques.

Fluency in professional English is recommended.
Autonomous, the person will have a strong ability to adapt to different technical/scientific contexts, and will have the interpersonal skills essential to integrate and work in a team and with recurring contacts in user contexts.

Job location

Site and department

LIDYL is located on the Orme des Merisiers site (Gif-Sur-Yvette)

The Laboratoire Interactions, Dynamiques et Lasers (LIDYL) conducts fundamental research on laser-matter interaction in the high-intensity, short-duration regime. In particular, LIDYL manages the state-of-the-art platforms ATTOLab (dedicated to ultrafast dynamics studies in gas, liquid and solid phases on femtosecond and attosecond scales) and UHI100 (radiation generation and particle acceleration by laser-matter interaction at very high intensities). The DICO group at LIDYL is developing research into ultrafast charge transfer in solids, liquids, films and solid surface ionization, using its own NanoLight (high harmonic generation and metrology), FLUME (pico- and femto-second fluorescence) and flash photolysis platforms, and the aforementioned ATTOLab and UHI100. These experiments have a wide range of associated instrumentation, requiring controls, detection and computer acquisition, and must occasionally be transportable to other experimental sites.

Department description

The mission of the CEA’s Fundamental Research Department, located at all the CEA’s civilian centers, is to conduct research in line with the CEA’s missions in the fields of physics, chemistry and life sciences, areas in which its excellence is recognized worldwide.Lorem Ipsum
