A microfluidic platform is available at LICSEN, it is used for the fast development of hydrometallurgical processes for improved recycling of metals. The analytical tools available include Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopies. The substrate integrated hollow waveguide FT-IR allows quantification of volatile species in the gas phase while the XRF allows on-line quantification of metals. Both techniques, coupled with the inherent advanatages of microfluidics, make possible to study various separation and purification processes (membrane-based processes, biolixiviation, liquid-liquid and solid-liquid extraction…) quickly, with minimal waste generation.
