  • Biography

Jean-Claude Berthet graduated from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie at Rennes. He obtained his PhD in 1992 from the University of Paris Sud-Orsay for studies on the organometallic chemistry of uranium in the Ephritikhine’s group at the CEA center of Saclay. He joined the group of Saclay as a permanent staff for chemical developments on the f-elements in non-aqueous solution. His work was mainly devoted to the early actinide chemistry (U, Th) in particular uranium in its whole oxidation states (III to VI) with special focus on organouranium compounds (hydrides, amides and cationic species...) and on UIII/LnIII differentiation as fundamental support on selective Ln(III)/An(III) separation problematic. Most of his latest researches on the f-elements focused on the structure and reactivity of actinocenes (C8H8)2An (An= U, Th), the reactivity of the uranyl ions {UO2}n+ (n = 1, 2) and of cyanide compounds of the actinides and lanthanides. His activity turned in 2015 toward the use of molecular metal complexes (U, Lanthanides, Cu, Ir, Co, Ni, Ru,…) as catalysts for the hydrosilylation/hydroboration of oxygenated compounds and oxygenated materials (biomass, plastics), the catalytic hydrogenolyse of halosilanes, and the chemistry of reactive hydrides compounds (Cu, Al, Ir…).
