Research

Being an experimentalist, I have a long experience in laser spectroscopy. I received my PhD in physics at the University of Stockholm (Sweden) in 1988 in the field of high-resolution molecular spectroscopy. I moved to France in 1988 and entered CNRS in 1991 to work in condensed phase photophysics and photochemistry.

Since then I have developed and applied various laser-based picosecond and femtosecond spectroscopic setups dedicated to the study of molecular excited states dynamics. I have in particular developed a "unique" UV fluorescence upconversion setup which allows measuring the extremely weak fluorescence of DNA (quantum yield 10-5). Our femtosecond fluorescence spectroscopy setup is also used to study, for exemple, the interaction dynamics between ligands (drugs) and proteins, melanin and other biomolecular systems.

A new activity is the investigation of photoactive materials for the conversion of solar energy.

I am taking an active part of the SLIC Laser Facility at CEA/Saclay. This host activity is part of the European LaserLab network and allows foreign teams to perform femtosecond fluorescence experiments in our laboratory.

I have published more than a hundred research papers in peer-reviewed journals (h-factor=30). I have co-edited a book, "Réactions ultrarapides en solution, approches expérimentales et théoriques", with Professor Mehran Mostafavi, Laboratoire de Chimie Physique, Orsay.

Teaching

I teach two classes in physical chemistry on the Master 2 level at the University Paris Sud 11. The first, "Fast processes in condensed matter", is part of the International "SERP Chem" Master (Surface, Electro, Radiation and Photo Chemistry). The second, "Interaction rayonnement-matière condensée, processus ultra-rapides en solution", is part of the Master M2 "Chimie physique - Instruments, Concepts et Applications"
