In his project “SPINFIELD – Controlling spin angular momentum with the field of light”, Romain Geneaux, a researcher in the DICO team at CEA-IRAMIS/LIDYL, will study the interaction between light and electron spin, an intrinsic quantum property directly responsible for macroscopic properties of materials, such as magnetism.
The aim of this research of excellence is to answer a fundamental question: are there direct and coherent interactions between the electron spins of a solid and the light electric field of light? This work could give rise to new ways of using lasers to control the magnetization or topology of materials, key properties for developing future generations of electronic devices.
