Coherent Manipulation of Spin (preliminary)

Very recently (in a new generation of samples) we have been able to performe the coherent manipulation of a pair transition.

This is similar as the experiment we performed on Atomic Contacts in 2013 (see video). Check it here: C. Janvier, L. Tosi et al., “Coherent manipulation of Andreev states in superconducting atomic contacts”, Science 349, 1199 (2015). and more recently Michel Devoret's group in Yale, also in InAs nanowires: M. Hays, et al., “Direct microwave measurement of Andreevbound-state dynamics in a proximitized semiconducting nanowire”, Phys. Rev. Lett. 121, 047001 (2018).

New results:

First we send photons at different frequency and detect which is the transtion frequency fA. Then we send an excitation at this frequency during a variable time in order to make oscillate the system between the ground state (no quasiparticle occuping the Andreev states) and the excited state (two quasiparticle in the first Andreev manifold). These Rabi oscillations are a proof of quantum coherence (very short, nevertheless).

By preparing the system in the excited state and measuring the state after a certain time Tdelay, the life-time of the excited state can be determined, in this case of 1.2microsec.
