Printing of biocompatible objects and surface coating

Summary:
After drawing and printing the objects using 3D printing technologies, the chemical modification of the surfaces of these objects will be study. Physicochemical and morphological characterization (IR, XPS, SEM, AFM) will be carried out.

Full description:
Additive technologies (3D printing) represent a new approach to rapid prototyping and creating objects for various applications, for the aerospace, automotive, microelectronics, or medical fields. In the laboratory, we have already used this technology to create conductive tracks on a flexible support, or to produce bactericidal coatings on food films.

As part of a new theme, 3D printing of medical devices, the team acquired a printer to design objects in biocompatible polymers. This will involve combining this technology with the laboratory's know-how in the field of surface coating (Graftfast®, SEEP, antibacterial surfaces, materials for depollution, etc.) in order to design hollow objects with different properties on its outer and inner walls.

The recruited trainee, after having drawn and printed the objects, will have to find the best methodology to modify this internal wall without altering the external wall, by setting up the fluidic system from the various equipment available. It will then be necessary to characterize these modified tubes, from a physico-chemical and morphological point of view, in order to confirm the modification without altering the surface.

To do this, he may be interested in:
• Surface chemistry: ATR-IR spectroscopy, XPS spectrometry
• Roughness: profilometry, AFM
• Morphology: SEM
