Today, the Safe by Design (SBD) approach should be considered in the development of nanomaterials with increasing level of complexity. It allows to take into account the safety issue since the first steps of the material preparation. The HARMLESS European project aims to propose tools able to guide the management and evaluation of toxicity of nanomaterials with increasing level of complexity, in particular for high aspect ratio nanomaterials. In this context, hybrid material based on metal nanoparticles and nanotubular clays will be synthesized [2,3], characterized and tested for their catalytic functionality [4,5]. The synthesis will be revised according to the toxicity results obtained on the primary design nanomaterials.
The aim of the intership is to 1) optimize the synthesis of clays materials functionalized with metal nanoparticles within a SBD approach 2) characterize the materials and fill an open data base to be used for evaluation of toxicity 3) test the functionality of the material 4) test the colloidal stability in biological media. The interaction with HARMLESS partners project will serve the SBD approach during the intership.
