Optimization of vortex structures for magnetic sensor applications

The goal of the internship is to optimize the vortex structures of tunnel magnetoresistance sensors using micromagnetic simulations and MFM magnetic measurements.

Full description:
Magnetic sensors with tunnel magnetoresistance are very sensitive sensors that can detect fields in the nT range. They are currently used in many applications, for example, automotive, biological detection, magneto-physiology, magnetic microscopy, hard disks, ... Vortex structures can be integrated in this type of sensors in order to extend the range of linearity of the sensors, which is very interesting for applications, for example for current sensors.
The goal of the internship is to study this vortex state by combining simulations and MFM (Magnetic Force Microscope) measurements. The simulations will be performed with the MUMAX3 micromagnetism software and will allow a better understanding of the magnetic state of vortices. These simulations will be compared to the images made by MFM, which allows to detect the perpendicular stray fields emitted by the vortices.
These structures will then be integrated into magnetic sensors and the performance of these sensors will be studied through magnetotransport and noise measurements.
