The project consists in the synthesis and the characterization of metallic nanoparticles (radiosensitizing effect) with a polymer corona. The nature of the corona will be modified in order to optimize the internalization of the nano-objects and/or to be able to graft molecules of interest thereon.

Full description:
The internship project consists of the synthesis and the characterization of inorganic nanoparticles grafted with a polymer corona. This corona confers better stability to the nano-objects in biological media but also, depending on the type of grafted polymer, more or less efficient internalization in cells, while maintaining the radioamplifying properties of inorganic cores. Finally, the presence of this polymer corona also makes it possible to envisage grafting of contrast agents for medical imaging and also of proteins, active drugs, or fluorescent markers.

Our objective will be therefore to synthesize a whole library of nano-objects with different polymer corona giving them various surface and/or biological properties. This project also includes an important part of physicochemical characterizations and biological tests in the presence or not of irradiation. This work will be done in close collaboration with another Laboratory of the University of Paris Saclay, specialized in the study of the radiosensitizing properties of nano-objects.

For this internship, we are looking for a motivated engineering student who has a solid background in polymer chemistry and associated characterization techniques (NMR, SEC, etc.). A strong interest in biology (cell culture) and / or more advanced techniques such as microscopy (TEM) or diffusion (light, neutrons, etc.) will also be appreciated. A thesis continuation is possible.
