Engineer or Post-doc position: Microwave bridge development for quantum circuits

Within the frame of the RobustSuperQ project (a PEPR project of the French Quantum plan driven by CNRS, CEA and INRIA), CEA’s Quantronics group offers a technical mission of 1 year (1-year extension possible) on the development of microwave bridges for quantum circuits.

These bridges are essential in planar microwave quantum circuits because they allow two different microwave lines to cross each other and/or two different ground electrodes to be well re-connected together, with minimal series inductance, capacitance to ground, and losses and reflection of the microwave signals passing the bridges.

The mission consists in:

  • Evaluating experimentally the microwave losses of different insulating materials below 300mK
  • Designing and simulating air or dielectric bridges using 3D microwave simulators
  • Developing in cleanroom one or several reliable processes for robust microwave bridges
  • Characterizing them at low temperature
  • Disseminating the process among the different quantum French labs by a good documentation and by visiting these labs.

Applicant should know superconducting circuits and their low temperature characterization, and have very good practical skills in nanofabrication by UV lithography, thin film deposition, wet and dry etching, optical and electron microscopy, etc.
