Electron transport properties of epitaxial metallic structures have been found to give rise to new phenomena in metallic nanostructures such as wave-guiding and ballistic effects in their electronic conductivity. Owing to high crystalline perfection and low-roughness, these new structures possess the properties that are unusual compared to previously studied metallic low-dimensional disordered structures. Nanotechnology and characterisation are also presented.
