Intermolecular Interactions and Reaction Dynamics in the Gas Phase

LENS - European Laboratory for Non-linear Spectroscopy, Florence, Italy

The activity of Molecular Beams group at LENS is focused on the study of isolated molecules and Van der Waals complexes in the gas phase, dealing with both structural and dynamical aspects. I will report on the last results we have obtained: the structure and the energetics of anisole dimer and the photodissociation of N-methylpyrrole (NMP).

Regarding anisole dimer, we have been able to resolve its structure, stabilized by stacking interaction: to the best of our knowledge it is the first example of a combined therotical and experimental study successfully carried out on aromatic dimers.

Regarding NMP, some studies have been already published by other groups dealing with its photodissociation @243nm and @193nm. We have tried to fill this energy gap and to unify previous results and ours in a unique theoretical framework.
