Holography with WFC correction

Digital in-line holography corrected from aberrations by resorting to wavefront sensor measurements 

 

The image quality achieved from coherent imaging reconstructions depends critically on the illuminating beam quality. Ensuring a high quality beam is, however, not always possible, especially in single-shot techniques, in which the photon number is scarce. Using a new approach, we demonstrated a digital aberration correction, with in-line holographic reconstructions, making use of the phase information separately measured in a wave-front sensor. The proposed method allows diffraction-limited resolutions, without the need of spatially filtering the beam, thus avoiding any additional signal reductions, critical for single-shot configurations. This technique is especially important in the new high-brightness pulsed XUV and X-ray sources, for which pulse shaping is difficult, opening the way to diffraction-limited reconstructions of non-reproducible samples.
