Design of non-wetted surfaces by both water and oil

Contact: GUENOUN Patrick, , patrick.guenoun@cea.fr, +33 1 69 08 74 33
Summary:
Design of new types of omniphobic surfaces. We intend to address this topicby modifying a surface (oxide, mica, silica, ...) in a physical way by modulating its roughness and by a suitable chemically grafting of molecules.
Possibility of continuation in PhD: Oui
Deadline for application:30/03/2018

Full description:
During this internship we propose to design new types of omniphobic surfaces. On such surfaces the deposition of hydrophilic (like aqueous solutions) or hydrophobic liquid (oil, organic liquids) forms dropplets, with a wide contact angle with the surface. This property is important for many applications, where it is not intended that the liquid stays on the surface, as for example the condensation drops on a windshield.

Yet, modifying a surface to obtain that both oil and water are not wetting, is a strong technological challenge for the industry. We intend to address this topic by modifying a surface (oxide, mica, silica, ...) in a physical way by modulating its roughness and by a suitable chemically grafting of molecules.
