Abstract:

This talk follows a round trip journey from the development of quantum theory to the high-point of its application, the semiconductor chip, and then back again to quantum theory, as the next revolution in information processing unfolds. Quantum computing uses untapped aspects of quantum mechanics to enable a new type of information processing. This technological revolution hasn’t happened yet. It is in progress right now. It will draw on condensed matter physics, computer science, materials science, and electrical engineering as it unfolds.
