Full description:
The CEA/List's Department of Imaging and Simulation for Control (DISC) develops non-destructive testing (NDT) methods that detect defects in materials for industrial sectors such as aeronautics, steel, oil, nuclear. The activities of the Instrumentation and Sensors Laboratory focus on the study of the magnetic properties of ferromagnetic materials by non-destructive testing.
SPEC's Nanomagnetism and Oxides (LNO) laboratory has skills, tools and expertise in the characterization and development of ultra-sensitive magnetoresistive magnetic sensors for various applications, ranging from biology to mass distribution applications such as automotive and magnetic material characterization.
The proposed internship is part of a collaboration between these two laboratories and aims to analyze the magnetic properties of materials such as steels. In this context, an innovative, highly sensitive and quantitative microscope is being developed. This microscope is based on the combination of a magneto-resistive sensor and scanning system.
The first part of the internship will consist of measuring the magnetic stray fields emitted by the surface of ferromagnetic materials using the new microscope to obtain the input data for the theoretical model developed at DISC.
The second part will be dedicated to the simulation evaluation of magnetic field distributions in ferromagnetic materials to understand the experimental results.
