Abstract :

Physical Review Letters publishes around 2500 letters per year, while maintaining its presence as the premier physics journal.  In this talk I will shed light on the editorial process and policies at Physical Review Letters--giving an ‘insiders view’  as to what goes on. I will try to address the many questions that are often raised by the thousands of authors, referees and readers. I will discuss upcoming projects and policy changes that may affect you and reflect on how PRL needs to orient itself in the rapidly changing landscape of scientific publishing. I would greatly appreciate your feedback and questions during and after the talk.

Katherine R. Thomas received her Ph.D. at the University of Cambridge, UK, where she studied various thin film surface phenomena in polymer, soft matter, and biological systems. During her Ph.D., Katherine also spent a few months working at the ExxonMobil Chemical Company research labs in Texas. She went on to work as a postdoctoral fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics and Self-Organization in Göttingen, Germany. Katherine joined PRL in 2013, where she handles papers in soft matter and biophysics. Katherine also works as an editor for Physics (physics.aps.org) writing stories about the latest physics research.
