I will talk about stimuli-responsive materials that are prepared from the rigid cylindrical inorganic polymer ‘imogolite’.
The combination of imogolite and dicarboxylic acids yields gels that exhibit thixotropy in response to mechanical shocks and physical/optical/electrochemical anisotropy via the orientation of the imogolite during flowing and subsequent standing. Robust gels have also been obtained by in situ polymerization of vinyl monomers in the imogolite-dicarboxylic acid network. In this presentation, I plan to show the design of the imogolite gel for usage in chiral sensing materials and electrolyte for battery/actuator.
