CAMEA - A new generation of multiplexed spectrometers

CAMEA (Continuous Angle Multiple Energy Analysis) is a new multiplexed backend for spectrometers designed to maximize the coverage in the horizontal scattering plane. This is achieved with up to 10 concentric arcs of vertically focusing analyzers that cover a large fraction of the scattering angles. Each arc scatters a different energy out of the plane to detectors above. The performance is further enhanced by the use of a new prismatic analyzer concept that allows simultaneous recording of several energies from a single analyzer crystal. [1] At the coming ESS instrument Bifrost CAMEA is used as secondary spectrometer in an inverse time of flight setup. This enables parallel measurement of more than 100.000 points in the horizontal scattering plane, each with TAS like intensity and resolution. LLB will be involved in the design and manufacture of choppers and detectors for this instrument. [2] CAMEA can also be used in a traditional triple axis setup and during the next year the multiplexed triple axis spectrometer RITA II, PSI will receive such an upgrade bringing it from 9 to more than 3000 simultaneously measured points in (q,w) space.
